| Computing for Seniors
Imagine that you are at the monthly men's club luncheon, and together you watch a video of the television show "Dragnet"....
Imagine that you are doing occupational rehab and a video of Tony Bennett singing "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" which brings lovely memories to mind.....
Imagine improving your leg muscles with a "sim cycle" as the monitor shows you traveling through the California Redwood Forest....
Imagine sending a video email to your grandchildren as you prepare for Valentine's Day.....
At St. Joseph Nursing Home, we do not have to imagine. We are the recipients of a grant for the "It's Never 2 Late" computer system through the NYS Department of Health. This system allows our residents to become comfortable with computers through a touch-screen monitor and a height-adaptable computer desk. Although it is housed and used primarily in Occupational Rehabilitation, it can easily be moved to any of our floors by the Activities Department for use with all of our residents.
Whether researching one's ancestral village in Italy, reading reviews of a book, or googling their name, our resident's are setting their computer phobias aside and learning a new way to enrich their lives. Designed for seniors, the "It's Never 2 Late" system allows residents to improve physical, cognitive and social skills. It is also one more element in providing quality care for our residents at St. Joseph Nursing Home.
